ABSTRACT

This Thesis is written under the title The Sociolinguistic Analysis on The Process of Kausnono Rite in Timorese’ Wedding ceremony, with the research question what is the process of Kausnono rite in Timorese’ wedding ceremony especially in Konbaki village, Polen district?. The aim of this study is to find out the process of Kausnono rite in Timorese wedding ceremony, especially in Konbaki village, Polen district. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data resource of this research is taken from five native speakers in Konbaki village who know clearly about Kausnono rite. The five informants are all male, consisting of a religious leader, two traditional leaders as Mafefaand also two community leaders. The result of this research shows that there are three processes in Kausnono rite applied by the Konbaki people. The first is the process of bifefomilineman neo atoniume‘the bride’s arrival at the groom’s house’, the second process is the process of bifenonomasanu‘reducing theclan’ and the last is the process of atoninonomasaeba‘raising the clan’. Kausnono rite is needed in Konbaki village because it’s a must that has to be carried out from the generation to generation.
