ABSTRACT
This research is entitled about “an analysis on maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon”. The research problems of this study are what types on maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon and what dominant types of maxim are found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. The aims of this studies is to find out types and dominant maxim found in “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. To support this study the writer used theory of Grice (1975). Descriptive qualitative method is apllied in this research. The object of this research is “Tell Your Dreams” novel by Sidney Sheldon. There are four types of maxim found, namely : maxim of Quantity, maxim of Quality, maxim of Relation and maxim of Manner. The data was collected by reading the novel, specify into the types and dominant types of maxim. After analyzing the data the writer found one hundred and sixty-four data that consisted of thirty-four data of maxim of quantity, Ninety-two data of maxim of quality, thirty five data of maxim of relation and three data of maxim of manner. The dominant types of maxim found in this research is maxim of quality.
