A study on teachers strategies in teaching reading comprehension to the first semester students of english study program at AWCU in Academic Year 2016/2017
This thesis is entitled “A Study On Teachers’ Strategies In Teaching Reading Comprehension To The First Semester Students Of English Study Program At AWCU In Academic Year 2016/2017)â€ÂÂ. The research problem of the research is: what are the teachers’ strategies in teaching reading comprehension to the first semester students of Artha Wacana Chistian University? Based on the nature of the problem of this writing, the writer used descriptive qualitative method to conduct the research. The subject of this research were three reading teachers who teach reading subject at English Study Program of AWCU. The instrument used to conduct this research are observation and questionaires. Related to this study, the writer analyzes the data used descriptive qualitative method. The result showed that teachers applied five teaching strategies in teaching reading comprehension, they are first scafolding strategy, teacher took responsibility to managed students learning. Second, think aloud strategy, teacher model students thinking how the process of comprehension works. Third, reciprocal teaching strategy, the teacher help the students to improve comprehension skill by given clear explanation about strategy is used. Fourth, question answer relationship strategy, the teacher help students become aware of likely sources of information as they respond to question, the last is SQ3R strategy or( Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review), teacher help students organized reading process into meaningable units.
