An analysis on marking criteria use by lecturers in speaking test for third semester students of english study program of Artha Wacana Christian University in Academic Year 2016/2017

The title of this study is “An Analysis on marking criteria used by lecturers in speaking test for third semester students of English Study Program of Artha Wacana Christian University in Academic Year 2016/ 2017”. The aims of this study are to find out the criteria for marking students by lecturers in speaking test to the third semester students in English Study Program of Artha Wacana Christian University. The problem of this study is what are the marking criteria used by lecturers in speaking test to the third semester students in English Study Program of Artha Wacana Christian University?. This study is foccusing on the marking criteria for students speaking designed by lecturers in speaking test for third semester students of English Study Program of Artha Wacana Christian University. The writer chooses descriptive qualitative method to be used in this writing. The data resources in this study are two lecturers who are teaching speaking course in English Study Program of Artha Wacana Chritian University in academic year 2016 / 2017. The result of this study show that the marking criteria that used by lecturer A are overall impression, techniques, content organzation and language orgganization and the marking criteria used by lecturer B are time, volume, using marking criteria is a good way because the lecturers will objectively in giving mark for students speaking. The criteria used by lecturers are similar to the criteria from Brown (2003:406-407), they are fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, comprehension, and task.
