A Descriptif Study on Clitics in Manggarai Language
ABSTRACT
The title of this writing is A Descriptive Study on Clitics in Manggarai Language. This research was conducted to answer two questions, they are: 1).What are the kinds of clitics in Manggarai Language? 2).What are the functions of clitics used in Manggarai Language? The writer analyzed the data using descriptive qualitative method and the finding of this research are some kinds of clitics in Manggarai Language that frequently used in “Dere Serani†book, those are: 1. Proclitic is clitic that attached in the beginning of host, for example: d-ite (Your), ngger-one (into), g’ata (with others), g’ise (with them) 2. Enclitic is clitic that attached in the end of host, for example: Toko-y (he sleeps), ba’eng-km (love us), boa-n (His/her grave), 3. Endoclitic is clitic that attached inside a word, for example: L-iha-s( by Him/her(all)), ngger- nia-t (where will we go), L-ite-s (by you(all), te-telu-n (third). Clitics in Manggarai Language have their own functions. There are three functions of clitics that found in “Dere Serani†book. Those functions are: 1) Verbal function, that to be related with verb, like tenses, aspect, and mood. For example: Veronika koso ranga-m, 2). Argument function that mention as pronominal clitic, and generally express person, number and gender. Argument function consists of object argument and subject argument. For examples: Yo Mori bae’ngkoe-km o Mori (God love us), Toko-y one oka menes bai (He/She sleeps in very cold stable). And 3). Nominal function that express case, deï¬ÂÂniteness, possessor agreement and number. For example: campe aku du susa-g (help me in my trouble), lelo Yesus roba suangkali-n (Look at Jesus, He falls two times).
