An Analysis on the Meaning of Iwan Fals Songs Lyriscs

ABSTRACT
The title of this writing is “AN ANALYSIS ON THE MEANING OF IWAN FALS’ SONGS LYRICS”. The aim of this writing is to know the types of meaning of Iwan Fals’songs. The method used in this writing is documentary analysis of descriptive qualitative method. The data taken in this writing is the original text of Iwan Fals’ songs that related to critical of government and social problems. The writer found five from seven types of meaning that appropriated with the theory of Leech (1974) exist in Iwan Fals’ songs. Conceptual meaning such as the word diskusi ‘discussing’ that has meaning as the act of talking about something with another person. Connotative meaning such as in the sentences kisah using tikus-tikus kantor yang suka berenang disungai yang kotor ‘the story of the obsolete mice office that like to swim in the river that dirty’. From this sentence the word sungai ‘river’ refers to the job. Social Meaning such as the word nggak ‘not’. This word tell to the reader about the speaker is the people from Java. Affective meaning such as the word binatang ‘animal’. The speaker has bad attitude because using word binatang ‘animal’. Reflected meaning such as perempuan bermake up tebal dengan rokok ditangan ‘women use overdressed by the cigarette in the hand’. This sentence related to social problem which tended to the whore’s life. The writer did not found out thematic meaning and collocative meaning. Based on the explanation above the writer concluded that Iwan Fals’ songs Lyrics only have five types of meaning.
