Grammatical Equivalence in Indonesian Translation of "Hary Potter and the Chamber of Secret"(A Novel by J.K.Rowling)
Abstract This study entitled “grammatical equivalence in Indonesian translation of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret†(a novel by J. K. Rowling). Which, the research question 1) what are the types of complement verb phrase found in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret†(a novel by J. K. Rowling) translated from English into Indonesian? And 2) how the categories of grammar (Person, Tense, and Voice) are translated from English into Indonesian found in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret “ (a novel by J. K. Rowling) ?. Therefore the aims of this research are to find out the types of complements in verb phrase and To describes the categories of grammar ( Person, Tense, and Voice ) are translated from English into Indonesian found in “ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret “ (a novel by J. K. Rowling). Besides that, the research of this study used descriptive qualitative method, and the data resource of this research are “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret†novels’ either English or Indonesian version. The theory used to answer this study are proposed by Mona Baker (1992) about grammatical equivalence and David Lee (2003 4th edition) about complements in verb phrase. The result of this study shows that there are five types of complements in verb phrase, such as: Direct Object, Ex: SL: “Filch grabbed a quillâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Filch meraih pena buluâ€ÂÂ, Indirect Object, Ex: SL: “Ron pressed his ear to the cold barrierâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Ron menempelkan telinganya ke palang yang dinginâ€ÂÂ, Subjective Predicative Complement, Ex: SL: “But she looked worriedâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Tetapi dia kelihatan cemasâ€ÂÂ, Objective Predicative Complement, Ex: SL: “He snatched up Hedwig’s cage†TL: “Dia menyambar sangkar Hedwigâ€ÂÂ, Prepositional Complement, Ex: SL: “Moaning Myrtle was sitting on the tank†TL: “Myrtle Merana sedang duduk ditangkiâ€ÂÂ. Moreover, the grammatical equivalence which is applied in complement in verb phrase shows that there are three categories, such as: Person, Ex ( You ): SL: “I warned youâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Kuperingatkan kauâ€ÂÂ, Tense, Ex: (simple present tense): SL: “You are a wonderful golferâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Anda adalah pemain Golf yang hebatâ€ÂÂ, Voice, Ex: ( active transitive voice): SL: “He hates meâ€ÂÂ, TL: “Dia membenci-kuâ€ÂÂ.
