Derivational Morphemes of Ndao Language (A Language Spoken in Ndao Island)
ABSTRACT
The title of this writing is ‘’ Derivational Morphemes of Ndao Language (A Language Spoken in Ndao)’’ The aim of this research is to answer the research problem“What are the derivational morphemes of Ndao language?†and what are the types of morphemes in Ndao language. The method used in this writing is qualitative method. The data of this research is a Gospel Matthew in Ndao Language. The writer collected and analyzed the derivational morphemes according to noun-verb, verb-noun, adjective-verb, adjective-noun and noun- adjective that found in the writing of gospel Matthew. In analyzed these derivational, the writer investigated one by one of the derivational process in the writing process. For example, the writer found there are derivational process, they are namely; noun to verb eci „one‟ – paeci „intimate‟, verb to noun jaji „promise‟ – pajaji ‘agreement‟, adjective to verb kaj’eu „far‟ - pakaj’èu ‘avoid‟, adjective to noun sala „wrong‟ – sasala „debt‟ and angalai ‘friend‟- pa’angalai „friendly‟. In Ndao language especial in gospel Matthew the writer found two types of morphemes they are bound morphemes and free morphemes and the writer just found prefix in bound morphemes and no infix sufix and circumfix, prefix in bound morphemes consist of pa-, ha-, nga-, sa, ta-. and free morphemes in Ndao language are word eci „one‟ in pa-eci „intimate‟, huku „law‟ in ha-huku „punishment‟, ngee „think‟ in nga-ngee „thinking‟ suri „writer‟ sa-suri „letter‟ and tao „act‟ ta-tao „action‟ The writer expects this writing could be as information to the reader about the derivational process in the Matthew gospel written in Ndao language.
